GENERAL INFORMATION CONCERNING SCHENGEN VISAS

Greece follows the Schengen Agreement provisions and the subsequent acquis concerning short term visa issues. Countries applying the Schengen acquis in full (E.U. countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Slovak Republic plus associated countries: Iceland, Norway and Switzerland) follow a common visa policy for short-term stays of up to three (3) months in the Schengen area. The citizens of these countries are not subjected to border controls within the common area (airlines or other carriers require identification - I. D. Card or passport or any other piece of identification issued by a public authority).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. All documents should be submitted in their original form accompanied by the relevant photocopies.
Τhe applicant has to appear in person. Handing in a complete set of documents does not guarantee a visa.

2. It may take from one to fifteen days, depending on the passport (i.e. the nationality of the holder) before the SCHENGEN system provides an answer on the application. Therefore, the applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications well in advance.

3. Wives/Husbands of E.U. citizens, are exempted in principle, from providing the documents described above under points 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 (i.e. contract of employment, hotel reservation or invitation, bank statement, medical insurance), provided that they will produce the marriage certificate and their husband’s/wife’s passport along with copies of them. They are also exempted from any visa fees. Marriage certificates from countries except Greece have to be legally certified (APOSTILLE STAMP of the Hague convention of 1961, a stamp by the Greek Embassy / Consulate in the country where the certificate was issued). It is hereby underlined that foreign husbands/wives of EU citizens do not need a visa to Greece, if they are accompanying their husbands/wives and possess document of residence in the Republic of Poland as wives/husbands of EU citizens.

4. In case of a minor applicant (children under 18), both parents have to sign the application in the presence of the responsible officer of the Consular Office. If this is not possible a written authorization (consent), legally certified (APOSTILLE STAMP of the Hague Convention of 1961 or stamp by a Greek Authority in Greece or abroad - Consulate or Embassy), of the parent who is not present is required.

5. The visa officer can ask for additional documents, if required, during the interview with the applicant.
