-Born in Piraeus, 14th May 1954.

-He graduated the Faculty of Law  of the University of Athens, 1977.

-Diploma of the Diplomatische  Akademie of Vienna, 1979.

-Military Service 1979-1981.

-He joined the Foreign Service as Attache, 1981.

-He served in the Cabinet of the Alternative Foreign Minister,

  then Foreign Minister, 1982-1985.

-1984 promoted Third Secretary of the Embassy.

-1985-1990 he served with the Permanent Delegation of Greece in NATO,    

  Brussels.

-1985-1989 Secretary of the Permanent Delegation.

-1987 promoted Second Secretary.

-1989-1990 member of NATO’s Political Committee.

-1990-1993 Consul General of Greece, in Benghazi, Libya.

-1991 promoted First Secretary.

-1993 Division of UN and other International Organizations, MFA, Athens.

-1993-1994 Head of Cabinet of the Deputy Minister, MFA, Athens.

-1994-1995 Department of Turkish Affairs, MFA, Athens.

-1995-1999 Embassy of Greece, Washington, DC, Political Counsellor.

-1997 promoted First Counsellor of Embassy.

-1999-2001 Head of Cabinet of the Deputy Minister, MFA, Athens

-2001-2003 Embassy of Greece, Nicosia, Deputy Chief of Mission.

-2003-2005 MFA Athens, Department  for Council of Europe and

  OSCE  Affairs,  Deputy Director.

-2005-2006MFA Athens, Department of Turkish Affairs, Deputy Director.

-January 2006, promoted to Minister Plenipotentiary 2nd class.

-Late 2006-March 2008, Director of the Department  for Olympiad and

   International  Sport Relations.

-March 11, 2008, he assumed duties as Ambassador of Greece to Bucharest

 

Decorations:

-Order of the Knight of Madara, 2nd class (Bulgaria, 1985).

-Golden Cross of the Order of Merit (Egypt, 1985).

-Superior Commander of the Order of Holly Sepulchre of the Orthodox

Patriarchate of Jerusalem (1999)

-Cross of Saint Marc of the Orthodox Patriarchate of  Alexandria (2001)

-Superior Commander of the Order of Phoenix, Greece (2007)

 

He speaks English, French, German.

He has written :

-Cyrene, the ancient Greek colonies in North Africa, (in Greek), Athens, 1994.

-Texts on History and Civilization, (in Greek), Athens, 1998.

-Essays on Hellenism (in Greek), Nicosia, 2006.

 

 

He is member of the Archaeological Society in Athens,  of the Ethnicos Sport Club (E.G.S) of Athens,  of the Greek Society of International Law and 

International Relations, and associate member of the IISS, London.

 

He is married to Polyxeni Stathopoulos.

And Katerina-Theophano (age 13)
