DRIVING LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

1.     You need to bring to the Consulate, a Confirmation of License Status from the RTA.

 

2.     Your ACT license needs to be valid.

 

3.     You need to inform us regarding which Local Prefecture we need to send the document along with the address.

 

4.     The rest of the procedure takes place in Greece.

 

 

CONVERTING A VALID AUSTRALIAN-NSW LICENSE INTO THE CORRESPONDING GREEK LICENSE

 

Prerequisites/Conditions

-          Have his ordinary place of residence in Greece

-          Hold a valid license issued from the RTA ACT.

-          Not to be a holder of another Greek driving license or from another EU country (including Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein).

-          Have reached the required age for each driving license category.

-          Meet minimal physical and intellectual capacity requirements for each driving license category

Requirements/Documents needed

-          Application Form; Statutory Declaration

-          Photocopy of foreign passport if applicant is not a Greek national or photocopy of identity card if he/she is a Greek national.

-          Photocopy of a valid establishment or residence permit or other  equivalent document, if applicant is not a Greek national, issued 185 days before the application or 95 days if applicant is a national of the EU and which will still be valid until the day of reception of the Greek driving license.

-          The foreign driving license must be valid.

-          A translation of the foreign license by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a lawyer

-          One recent passport-type photograph(colour)

-          Two health certificates (from a GP and an ophthalmologist or a certificate from a Higher Medical Committee as appropriate)

-          A ‘Confirmation of License Status’ issued from the RTA where the Consulate will translate and sent the documents to the relevant Transport and Communications Department.

Procedure

-          The application must be submitted to the Transports and Communications Department of the applicant’s place of residence.

-          The foreign driving license will remain in the files of the Transport and Communications Department to be returned to the applicant when the Greek License is handed over.

-          Should the applicant hold another driving license, issued by Greece or another EU member state, this must be handed over so that a new license incorporating all vehicle categories and sub-categories that he/she is authorised to drive may be issued.
