EU-UN relations:
The two organisations’ cooperation on crisis management was officially established in 2003. Following their initial cooperation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the European Union and the United Nations cooperated in the field of crisis management in many countries, particularly in Africa. The European Union and our country are of the firm view that the primary responsibility of the United Nations for the preservation of world peace and security should be recognised. The Joint EU-UN Declaration signed in June 2007 further promotes cooperation between the two organisations and places emphasis on the coordination of their efforts in support of Africa's peacekeeping capabilities.
EU-NATO relations:
The cooperation between the European Union and NATO on military crisis management is governed by the principles of respect for the different natures of the two organisations and the decision-making autonomy of each one of them. The European Union has the ability to conduct military operations either on its own or by having recourse to NATO means and capabilities, following agreement on arrangements between the two organisations.
