I. Diplomatic relations:

 

          Diplomatic relations with the Karzai government were established in 2004. There is currently no Greek diplomatic mission in Afghanistan.

 

          The Embassy of Greece in Pakistan has parallel accreditation.

 

II. Political relations

             

          Greece has openly declared the importance of improving security conditions (eliminating terrorism), democratisation and economic progress in Afghanistan. It also supports maintaining good neighbourly relations with Iran and Pakistan, emphasizing the need for further strengthening trade and economic relations with the above countries.

 

III. Economic and trade relations

           

Development aid: The following Greek NGOs were active in Afghanistan in 2004:

 

  • Greek Red Cross. Construction of Health Centre in Mazar-e-Sharif region,
  • Greek Rescue Team. Operation of Greek-Afghan Nursing School and Mobile Pre-Hospital Care Unit (Kabul). Establishment of Afghan-Greek Centre for Health Studies (Kabul). Humanitarian aid.
  • Klimaka. Upgrading of psychiatric hospital (Kabul). Mental health services on national level. Vocational training school for assistant nurses ( Joghouri and Ghazni regions),
  • ONAKA. Establishment of network of Afghan women in health and education sectors,
  • Action Aid Hellas. Development aid to Afghan refugees living in Pakistan.

 

IV. Embassy details

 

There is not Greek Diplomatic Authority in Afghanistan. The embassy in Islamabad is at the same time accredited in Kabul.
