. Diplomatic relations
The Greek Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, is also accredited to Burma. Conversely, the Burmese Embassy in Rome is also accredited to Greece.
In consular affairs our country is represented by the Italian Embassy in Yangon.
I. Political relations
The geographical distance separating Greece from Burma, the policy of isolationism pursued by the Burmese regime since 1962 and the countrys low level of economic development have not provided suitable conditions for the development of political ties.
However, Greece is now expected to establish links with Burma at multilateral level following Burmas recent accession to the international organization ASEM (Asia- Europe Meeting).
Burma supported Greeces bid for election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Burma has established diplomatic relations with FYROM under its constitutional name.
There have been no high-level visits to Burma. The EU has in any case placed Burma under embargo because of its poor human rights record.
III. Economic and trade relations
There are no bilateral economic or trade relations they are in any case also the subject of an EU embargo.
