I. Diplomatic relations
The Greek Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, is representing Vietnam in parallel. Vietnams Embassy in Rome is accredited in parallel to our country.
In consular affairs, our country is represented by the German Embassy in Hanoi.
II. Treaty Framework
The two countries have signed a bilateral agreement on commercial, industrial and technical cooperation, and the two countries are currently negotiating a Maritime Agreement and an Educational agreement, as well as a Memorandum on Tourism.
III. Political relations
The hitherto weak but rapidly developing Vietnamese economy, coupled with the great distance between the two countries, has not left much room for developing bilateral political relations.
Vietnam supported Greeces candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. On 10 June 1994, Vietnam established diplomatic links with FYROM under its constitutional name.
In 2004, Greek officials carried out two state visits in Vietnam. The first was by the then Foreign Minister, Mr. Petros Molyviatis, who was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. y. Valinakis, in his visit to Hanoi for the 5th ASEM Summit (8-9/10/2004). The second was by the Minister for Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Nikolaos Tsiartsonis, who visited Hanoi (18-19/11/2004) to seek support for Greeces bid to host EXPO 2008.
IV. Greek community
According to the Bangkok Embassys records, there are some 10 Greeks in the country, involved in various small-scale business activities.
