I. Diplomatic Relations
There is Embassy-level representation between the two countries. The Greek Embassy in Oslo opened in 1980.
II. Framework of Treaties
The following treaties should be noted:
- Treaty on Social Security (1980)
- Cultural Agreement (1976)
- Agreement on the avoidance of double taxation (1988)
III. Political relations
Both countries are members of NATO, and collaborate closely within the institutional framework governing relations between the European Union and the EEA.
In 2004, the King and Queen of Norway visited Athens (June). This was preceded by visits by the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of the Economy (Messrs Bondevik, Petersen and Foss), both during the Hellenic Presidency, and subsequently. The Norwegian Foreign Minister Mr. Jonas Gahr Stre met with Foreign Minister Ms. D. Bakoyannis in Athens on 02/07/08
IV. Greek community
The Greek community in Norway consists of about 350 individuals. The majority are established in Oslo, more or less permanently. An overwhelming majority have created family ties, by marrying Norwegian nationals.
