I. Diplomatic Relations
Greece is diplomatically represented in Suriname by the Greek Embassy in Brasilia.
II. Framework of Treaties
Economic, Scientific and Technological Co-operation Agreement. It was signed in Athens in 1999 and entered into force on 10.5.2002. It provides the framework for co-operation between Institutes of Higher Education.
III. Political Relations
Greek relations with Suriname are smooth, with good co-operation in International Organisations and reciprocal support of candidacies.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname made an official visit to Greece in January 1999.
IV. Economic and Trade Relations
Trade with Suriname is limited. The distance separating the two countries, political instability after Suriname gained her independence, and Dutch economic domination are the main reasons why Greek investors and exporters have shown no interest in Suriname.
V. The Greek Community
There is no Greek Community in Suriname. The only Greek presence in the country is that of seamen who often put into the countrys ports in Greek merchant vessels.
