I. Diplomatic Relations
Greece maintains an Embassy in Baghdad, and Iraq is represented in Greece by its Embassy in Athens.
II. Political Relations
Our country is in favour of maintaining the independence and territorial integrity of Iraq, within the framework of the relevant UN resolutions. Greece wishes to reinforce the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the countrys state entity and state structures, even in the form of a federation.
Greece has provided the following sums to Iraq in development and humanitarian aid (data as of October 2006, from the Foreign Ministrys International Development Cooperation Department YDAS):

The Greek NGO Mediterranean 2002 Centre for Culture and Human Rights is active in Iraq, and in 2006 completed programmes for the modernization of the water-supply and sewage infrastructures of Baghdads paediatric clinic and provision of computers for the University of Mesopotamia.
III. Greek-Iraqi Contractual Framework
1. Agreement on consular passport fees (Jerusalem, 06/08/1937)
2. Greek-UK Agreement on mutual recognition of merchant ship survey certificates (London, 30/11/1926). Ratified under Law 3420/1927 (GG 241/A/1927). Extended to Iraq by verbal note as of 20/12/1927.
3. Commercial air transport Agreement (Athens, 01/12/1971). Ratified under Legislative Decree 185/1974 (GG 350/A/20.11.1974). In effect as of its signing.
4. Trade Agreement (Beirut, 26/04/1956). Ratified under Law 4302/1963 (GG 70/A/27.5.1963). In effect as of 01/05/1964.
5. Agreement on educational and scientific cooperation. (Baghdad, 20/11/1979). Law 1098/1980 (GG A 285/17.12.1980). In effect as of 07/02/1983.
6. Agreement on international road transport (Athens, 25/02/1981). Ratified under Law 1246/1982 (GG 42/A/05.04.1982). In effect as of 07/07/1982.
7. Agreement on economic and technical cooperation (Baghdad, 03/06/1976). Ratified under Law 638/1977 (GG 197/A/15.07.1977). In effect as of 26/08/1977.
8. Tourism cooperation agreement between the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) and Iraqs State Tourism Organisation (Athens, 17/12/1981). Ratified under Law 1462/1981 (GG 90/A/16.06.1984). In effect as of signing.
9. Agreement on the training of Iraqis at the Hellenic Air Force Academy (Athens, 12/03/1983). Not ratified.
10. Protocol of cooperation on agricultural issues.
11. Tourism Cooperation Agreement (16/06/1984). Has not been activated.
Since 1978, eight (8) Greek-Iraqi Joint Ministerial Committee meetings have been held.
IV. Economic and Trade Relations
Greeces bilateral trade relations with Iraq are characterized by intense fluctuations and the trade balance shows a structural deficit to the detriment of Greece (with the exception of 2006 and 2008, according to data released thus far) mainly due to imports of crude oil (100% of total imports in 2007).
